Ramadan Overnight Stay in Birmingham for UK Students
The aim of this Ramadan overnight stay was to support students in preparing spiritually for the final and most blessed nights of Ramadan. Many attendees were actively involved in ISOC committees and community work, often balancing demanding academic and organisational responsibilities.
This gathering offered a rare opportunity to step away from daily routines and distractions, allowing students to reconnect with their purpose and strengthen their relationship with Allah in a setting centred around worship and reflection.
How the Ramadan Overnight Stay Began
The evening began with arrivals and a warm welcome, as students settled into the masjid and prepared for the night ahead. The programme opened with a Qur’an recitation led by Shaykh Ishaaq, giving attendees the opportunity to engage with and refine their recitation.
This was followed by an opening session, including a short Ramadan quiz as an icebreaker, before Shaykh Anas Tayib delivered a reminder and hosted a Q&A session. This helped ground attendees in the purpose of the gathering and set the tone for the night.
As Maghrib approached, everyone came together to break their fast and pray, sharing in a simple yet meaningful iftar that reinforced the sense of unity among participants.

Taraweeh, Qur’an and Night Worship at Green Lane Masjid
As the night progressed, the congregation stood together for ĘżIsha and Taraweeh prayers at Green Lane Masjid, led by Shaykh Ahsan Hanif and Shaykh Anas Tayib
Following the prayers, attendees benefited from the “O you who believe…” lecture series delivered by Shaykh Mahamed AbdurRazaq. This session combined short tafseer with practical reminders, encouraging sincerity, self-reflection, and intentional worship.
The night naturally transitioned into quieter moments, with time dedicated to personal worship, rest, and preparation for the later hours.
Tahajjud and Late Night Worship During the Last Ten Nights
In the depths of the night, attendees gathered once again for Tahajjud, a deeply spiritual and intimate form of night prayer, led by Shaykh Anas Tayib and Shaykh Adnane Majid.
The stillness of the night created a powerful atmosphere for reflection, allowing students to disconnect from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with Allah. Many described this as one of the most impactful moments of the entire overnight stay.
Suhoor followed soon after, bringing everyone together once again before the arrival of Fajr salah, led by Shaykh Zakaullah Saleem.
Fajr, Tafsir and Morning Reflections After the Overnight Stay
As the morning began, attendees benefited from a tafsir session on Surah Aal Imran delivered by Shaykh Mustafa Abu Rayyan, helping to ground hearts in the meanings of the Qur’an.
After some rest, the programme concluded with a closing session focused on maximising the last ten nights of Ramadan, followed by a Q&A. The event came to a close after Dhuhr, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity.
